Supplementary
School
in Lancaster (The School) is all volunteer led and run
non-profit organization. Its main aim is to teach children Polish language, literature, culture and traditions as well as to organise social life to their parents and families. It is open to children (4 - 17 yrs old) and their parents from Lancashire.
Our school is a member of the Polish Educational Society in London
(Register Charity) which has some fifty Polish Saturday Schools under its
patronage in the UK and provides them with manuals and other teaching aids,
trains Polish teachers, organises GCSE and AS & A2 Level Exams.
The
Polish
Supplementary
School
in
Lancaster
belongs to the Polish Catholic Mission in
Lancaster
which provides class-rooms (no charge) and supports all activities.
Our Ethos
We strive to ensure that
relationships between all members of the school community are modelled on
Christian values. We aim to create a warm, welcoming, safe environment for
visitors and pupils alike. We place much emphasis on high standards of conduct
and achievement by our pupils. For this reason our school encourages:

Governing Body
School is run by a governing body working
with the headteacher to ensure pupils get a good
education. The governing body of a school is responsible
for ensuring that it is run to promote pupil achievement. Its duties include:
- setting strategic direction, policies
and objectives
- approving the school budget
- reviewing progress against the school's
budget and objectives
- appointing, challenging and supporting
the headteacher
The governing body is made up of The Parish Priest and The Commitee of
the Polish Catholic Mission in Lancaster, Polish Centre, Nelson Street, Lancaster. LA1 PT.
Executive Body
The Executive Body consists of Teachers and the Parents Board and governs
the current activity of the School and its funds.
The Executive Body calls
General Annual Meetings and informs parents about it. At least once a year Executive Body makes the financial statement of the school. The Executive Body supports Head
teacher in running the School and helps to organise funds for the School.
School Finances
The School is funded by
school fees, donations and grants.
The School can organize
events to raise funds.
The school fee is
determined and announced by Parent’s Board and is valid for whole school year.
The Parent's Board has
authority to discount or suspend school fee in the individual circumstances.
The school fee is collected
in cash at the beginning of the school year and is not refundable.

Regulations
Registration and fees
- Each student must be
registered in school for each school year.
- Fees must be paid within 4
weeks from the admission date.
- Fees are payable for the whole
year in advance or pro rata if student is enrolled during the academic year.
- New students can only be
registered with prior approval from Administration. A parent/guardian
dissatisfied with the decision may appeal to the Board of Governors in writing.
Registration is conducted by school Administration.
Premises specific regulations
- Classes are held on Saturdays
in Polish Centre from
10:00
to
13:00
. The school day commences with assembly in the social centre on the first floor.
At the end of the day children can be collected from the hall.
- Food and drink is only allowed
in the canteen area.
Behaviour
- All members of the school are
expected to help maintain good atmosphere showing respect to each
other as well as to public and private property. Students behaving badly can be
excluded from the school with no refund of fees. Students excessively failing to attend classes can be excluded from
the school with no refund of fees.
Students under 18 years old are not allowed to
leave the school grounds during school time.
Mobile
phones must be switched
off during lessons.
During break times students are not allowed to stay
in classrooms or corridors without teacher supervision.
Learning
- Students are expected to work at school as well as to do their
homework.
- Parents/guardians are expected to monitor children's' progress and help
them if necessary.
- Parents/guardians are required to attend progress review meetings.
School library is available only for students,
parents/guardians and staff.
Activities
- School members are required to
take part in organised school events.
- School members are expected to be active
and help in running the school, especially in fund-raising events such as
selling tea and coffee and at the school fair.
Lessons (Classes)
Lessons (Classes) take
place from September to June (10 months) once a week on Saturday from 10.00
till 13.00. The School can organize other voluntary lessons/activities.
Parents
Active participation of
parents in school life is essential in achieving success.
It is parent’s
responsibility to make sure pupils attend classes in a timely manner and are
collected safely after classes.
It is parent’s
responsibility to help pupils with their home work and to maintain good contact
with teachers to discuss pupil’s progress.
Parents support the Head
Teacher and the Parent’s Board in their work.
It is parent’s duty to help
organize school events to raise funds for the School and to promote the School.
It is parent’s duty to help
during classes at least once a year.
Parents should attend
General Meetings.
Parents are financially
responsible for any damages made by their child.
For pupils safety parents
are responsible for informing school about any changes in address and/or
contact telephone numbers
Parents on-duty
responsibilities
Before classes - taking
care for all children in/out of the buildings, directing children to correct
classrooms, keeping order until teacher takes over.
During classes - ringing at
the beginning and at the end of classes in the timely manner, patrolling area
around classes and main entrance.
During breaks - preparing
cold and hot drinks, maintaining order during meals, making sure pupils do not
leave premises without teacher’s knowledge and permission.
After classes - making sure
all pupils have been collected by appropriate persons and premises has been
left clean and in order.
All parents not on-duty but
present before, during and after classes have right and duty to make sure all
pupils are safe and help when necessary.
Teacher's duties include:
1. Preparing and realization
of educational program
2. Running classes in the
timely manner
3. Running class register
4. Examining and assessing
pupils knowledge regularly
5. Passing information
about pupils progress to parents
6. Taking part in Teacher's
Board meetings
7. Taking part in Parent's
Board Meetings when requested
8.Taking part in
organization and realization of The School events
In coordination with Parent's
board the Head Teacher:
1. Prepares and supervises
realization of detailed yearly plan of school activities.
2. Coordinates supplies and
expenditures of the School.
3. Keeps the School books
and other School documentation
4. Takes part in the
meetings of the Parent's Board
Discipline
The Head Teacher in coordination with Teacher's Board inflicts penalties for
inappropriate behavior.
Parents are required to
cooperate with teachers in maintaining discipline at the school.
